Racism as a Public Health Crisis: The City and County’s Declaration and the Impact on Our Community
Cleveland City Council and Cuyahoga County both declared racism as a public health crisis in 2020, similar to over 200 cities and counties across the country. A panel of representatives from Cleveland’s Racism as a Public Health Crisis Coalition and Cuyahoga County’s Citizens’ Advisory Council on Equity will discuss the historical and current impact of racism on public health in Northeast Ohio, the importance of declaring racism as a public health crisis locally, the current activities at the local level, and the future goals of the committees that lead the eliminating racist policies and advancing racial equity.
