The Cleveland Community Police Commission is seeking public comment on the Cleveland Division of Police’s vehicle pursuit policy updated this year.
Vehicle Pursuits are part of the 2015 Consent Decree. The Decree States:
“CDP will continue to limit vehicle pursuits to those in which the need to capture the suspect outweighs the danger to the public. CDP will continue to limit the number of CDP vehicles that may be involved in a vehicle pursuit”
The public can review the proposed policy and provide feedback here: CPC Vehicle Pursuit Policy Survey (surveymonkey.com)
There will be an in-person community forum on the topic June 20th. Details will be finalized soon. Please save the date and plan to attend!

I think what Cleveland needs to do in this case is make running from police in the city at an excessive speed a 10 year minimum sentence. Excess is 10+ miles per hour over the speed limit. Either they will give up or be in jail, either way it’s a win win for the law abiding.
This will also prevent a person looking for well lite or safe area to pull over from being charged with running from the police.
